Sobre o novo nome para a SLA

Dizia Janice Lachance que mais que um “name change” é um problema de “game change”.

Diz Karen Reczek que quando diz que é uma bibliotecária empresarial as pessoas não reconhecem a adjectivação e perguntam o que faz concretamente. Quando explica o que faz as pessoas dizem que “isso não é um bibliotecário”.

Um dos corolários possíveis de tirar do estudo “Align 09” é: precisa-se de um nome que leve a sociedade a procurar-nos quando precisa de alguém com as nossas competências. Se a sociedade não procura “bibliotecários” quando precisa destas competências, procura quê? Queremos ser conhecidos por esse nome (se é que ele existe)? Os que já são conhecidos por esse nome querem a nossa companhia?

Ainda por cima, por defeito de formação na área da biblioteconomia, somos adeptos incondicionais da rotulação e catalogação das coisas… até de nós próprios.

PS: à uns anos, num grupo de estudo em que participei, definia-se “informático” com todo aquele que é pago para fazer “coisas de informático”. Os profissionais da informação podem almejar a mesma delimitação?
